Last updated 1 year ago

Buy X Get Y is a marketing strategy that offers customers a free or discounted product or service when they purchase a specified quantity of another product or service. This strategy is often used to increase sales, attract new customers, and boost customer satisfaction.

What is Buy X Get Y campaign?

Buy X Get Y is a marketing promotion that gives customers the chance to receive a free or discounted product when they purchase a product.

At its core, Buy X Get Y (BXGY) and Buy One Get One (BOGO) are both marketing promotions that offer customers a discount or service on a subsequent product. The key difference between BXGY and BOGO is:

  • In BXGY, customers receive a discount on the second product. This discount can be in the form of a percentage or a fixed amount.

  • In BOGO, customers receive the second product for free (which is the same as a 100% discount).

Instruction

To get started with Buy X Get Y, there are three ways where you can start creating it:

  1. If you are a new users using the app for the first time, you can see all your apps right on the Dashboard page. Here, you can select "Buy X Get Y" in the Boost Upsell section

  1. You can also click on "Explore all apps" at the top, and it should show the Boost Upsell mini app, where the Volume Discounts upsell offer can be found:

  1. If you have already used the Buy X Get Y feature, you can see it will appear in the My app section on your Dashboard page.

If you already have previously created Buy X get Y offers, you will see them listed. To create a new Buy X Get Y offer, click on Create New.

Creating a Buy X Get Y offer is now seamless thanks to the updated step-by-step upsell creation Wizard. Let us go through the steps:

Step 1: Identify products that meet the criteria for running a campaign.

  1. Select products applied the rule - This means that customers who purchase one of these products will be presented with an offer for the Buy X get Y campaign.

Similar to Bundles and Volume Discount, you can also modify product selections:

  • Any Product (Default): This means that any product in your store are eligible for this Product Bundle upsell offer.

  • List products: By selecting this option, you can choose which products are eligible for this Product Bundle upsell offer.

  • List collections: By selecting this option, you can choose which collections are eligible for this Product Bundle upsell offer.

  1. Select products qualify for the offer, applied when conditions are met

Similar to Step 1, you can also modify product selections: Any products, List products, List collections

Step 2: Discount value

In this step, you can define the discount behaviour that this Buy X get Y will use. The following options are found within this step:

  • Discount type (Percent or Fixed Amount): This main discount option will determine how much discount you would like this Product Bundle to have.

    • Percent (default): Any value that you place here from 0 to 99% will have that equivalent discount amount off the whole bundle

    • Fixed Amount: This alternative discount option will let you provide how much (in your store currency) exact discount you would like your Product Bundle to have when purchased, instead of being percentage based.

If the discount value is 100% or equal to the price of the second product, then the campaign is a BOGO.

Once you're happy with your discount definition, you can go to the next step - Display.

Step 3: Display

In this step, you can control how and where you would like the Buy X get Y offer to be displayed. This is divided into four sections:

  • Product Page:

    • In this section, you can change basic text settings of how the bundle will display on the product page

      • Offer title: Choose a name that will impress customers

      • CTA button text: The content in the button, take strong action with customers

      • Label text for product A: Here, you can modify the content you want to convey to customers in your language

      • Label text for product B: The same with Label text for product A

      • Custom style (of button)

  • Cart page

    • With this section, you can customize how the upsell suggestion on the cart page will appear.

  • Add to cart button

    • This feature of the Product Bundle upsell offer lets the bundle have the ability to show up as a pop-up when a visitor clicks the main Add-to-Cart button of a participating product.

    • This is a great feature to enable to ensure that all visitors to your store can interact with your created Product Bundle, even if they don't click this offer's own Add-to-Cart button.

  • Post Purchase on Thank You Page

    • You can enable this option if you would like to have an upsell suggestion that appears after the customer orders an eligible product from your store, but has not ordered enough to qualify for a Volume Discount.

Please note that you can enable/disable any one of these placement options, according to your preference. But for the highest conversion rate and value, we recommend enabling all of them.

Once you're satisfied with these different placement options, you can now proceed to Step 4 - Review.

Step 4: Review

Review your chosen settings and activate/publish the upsell offer:

In this final step, you can see an overview of the chosen options from the previous step, and also set the following features:

  • Offer Status (Draft or Active) - You can choose Active if you would like this upsell offer to be activated right away once you save your changes. Otherwise, you can choose Draft.

  • Offer Name - You can also define an internal name for this Product Bundle upsell offer for easier management of offers inside the Boost Upsell mini app.

  • Time period: You can set a time to automatically stop running a campaign. The start date is always the date the campaign is created. You can enable and adjust the end date of the campaign.
